Species that may have entered the family crustaceans are also found in the Mariana Trench (photo: BBC)
Interesting - Some researchers broke the record when they find fist at a depth of 8145 meters below sea level or adrift nearly 500 meters from the previous record. In addition to the species of fish that has never been seen, the researchers also found a giant crustacean species at a depth of 8 kilometers.

Findings unique species that is the result of an expedition team hadal Ecosystem Assessment (Hades) to the Mariana Trench located in the Pacific Ocean. With a depth of about 11 kilometers below sea level, it is the deepest trench in the world.

To obtain good quality images, the team lowered unmanned device more than 90 times to depths ranging from 5,000 meters to 10,600 meters.

"Many studies haste to the bottom of the trough. However, from the ecological point of view, the view was very limited. Supposing, as would like to understand the ecosystem of a mountain just by reviewing its peak," said Dr. Jeff Drazen, heads a team of scientists from the University of Hawaii, USA.

About the species of fish found in the depths of 8145 meters, Dr. Alan Jamieson from the University of Aberdeen initially thought he had found Snailfish.

"However, the shape is very strange and as it floats in the air. Incredible shape fragile and, while swimming, he seemed to have wet wipes floating behind. The snout is also strange, like a cartoon dog muzzle," said Jamieson, who participated in the expedition team.

Expedition team also discovered a unique species of crustaceans suspected members of the family. This species has a body length of up to 30 cm.

"We have recorded over 20 hours and we learn how they swim, how they eat, and how the banish predators," said Jamieson.

Prior to this expedition, a record held by Snailfish deepest fish pink (Pseudoliparis amblystomopsis) were found in the Japan Trench at a depth of 7,700 meters.

Click for strategies to make initial meetings between two dogs, two cats and a dog and a cat go swimmingly.

Dog Meets Dog
With digs, a low-key first impression goes a long way. Arrange their get-together on leashes outdoors and ask a friends to hold one dog when you take the another. A head-on encounter can be off-putting, so walk one up alongside the other, and have treats on hand to reward good social behavior.

Cat Meets Cat
Felines need a long time to acclimate to any other animals, so make sure your cats can keep their distance at first. Close off a room where your new cat can live for a few days. The cats will able to smell each other, which helps them get used to the idea of other cat in the house. Then swap their spaces.

Until they have used to each other, separate them with a gate or closed door supervise their time in shared areas.

Consider their personalities, though: As with human, some pets just do not click, and a big age gap or divergent temperaments will make it tough for them to get along. Interesting - Nearly two months after photos of Jennifer Lawrence, Rihanna, Kate Upton, and other celebrities were reportedly stolen from Apple's iCloud service and distributed online, links to sites hosting Lawrence's photos have started being removed from Google.

Based on Guardian, Google has removed two links to a site hosting the stolen photos, after Lawrence's lawyers filed takedown request under the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA), claiming copyright infringement.

Google has been under intense scrutiny since the photos were leaked in late August. In early Oktober, they were threatened with a  $100 million lawsuit for failing to remove stolen images a month after a takedown request. Entertainment lawyer Martin Singer, whose firm represents several of the women hacked, sent a letter to Google claiming, among other things, that the company 'has turned a blind eye while its sites repeatedly exploit and victimize these women.'

In a response statement, Google staffers claimed they have 'removed tens of thousands of images-within hours of the requests being made-and we have closed hundreds of accounts. The internet is used for many good things. Stealing people's private photos is not one of them'.

While this is a small victory for Lawrence and her lawyers, there're still many more links to be removed, and noise to cut through. Earlier this month, Corynne McSherry, intellectual property director at the Electronic Frontier Foundation. In a exclusive interview with Vanity Fair, Lawrence called out the sites hosting these photos for profit, and called he hack a sex crime.

Interesting - Animal control specialist searched for an albino cobra that was on the loose on Wednesday in a Southern California suburb, where the venomous reptile has slithered around at least since it bit a dog two days ago, a officials said.

Three animal control workers were out in the community of  Thousand Oaks looking for the cobra, which would typically venture out to hunt for good in the evening, said Los Angeles County animal control officer Alfired Aguirre.

Officials said it remained unclear who might own the snake, which is illegal to possess in California without a permit, or how and when it got loose in the suburban neighborhood a few hundred feet from a freeway.

The snake bit a dog in the neighborhood on Monday, officials said. The dog's owner took photographs of the snake an alerted authorities. The pet has since recovered from the bite, which occurred in an area where residents have some experience with rattlesnakes, Aguirre said.

"People are a little more freaked out because obviously cobras do not live in this area, but it is just as dangerous as any of the rattlesnakes that we have living in this area," he said.

Families in the neighborhood have been advised to keep close watch on their children and to tell them to not approach any snakes, but residents haven't been advised to leave their homes, said Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control spokeswoman Betsey Webster.

California Department of Fish and Game officers and Ventura County Sheriff's Office deputies have helped in the search. Thousand Oaks is in Ventura County but it pays the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control to serve the city, Webster said.

Scientists Translate Chimpanzee and Bonobo Gestures That Resemble Human

Chimpanzees
illustration photo: theweek.com

Interesting - Scientists have described the communications of chimpanzees and bonobos in new and unsurpassed detail, offering a lexicon for our closest living relatives and even a glimpse the origins of human language.

The research, contained in two new studies published July 3 2014 in Current Biology, focuses on physical gestures. These're the primary form of communication in bonobos and chimps, used more readily than vocalizations.

One study describes how a certain bonobo gesture conveys an informational complexity not previously observed in non-human great apes. The other study identifies the meanings of no fewer than 36 chimpanzee gestures.

"What we have is a very rich system of many different meanings," said primatologist Richard Byrne of Scotland's University of St. Andrews, co-author of the chimpanzee study. "We have the closest thing to human language that you can see in nature."

Byrne's co-author, fellow University of St. Adrews primatologist Catherine Hobaiter, spent 18 months observing a group of chimpanzees in the Budongo Forest Reserve in western Kenya. Hobaiter painstakingly documented more than 4,500 gestures in 3,400 incidents of chimp-to-chimp gesturing, noting both the motions used and the responses of nearby chimps.

Subsequent statistical analysis boiled those observations down to 36 established gestures and 15 clear-cut meaning. (Multiple gestures are sometimes used for the same purpose, perhaps conveying some-not understood nuance.) Stomping two feet, for example, is used to initiate play. Reaching means."I want that," and an air-hug embrace is a request for contact.

The latter two gestures can be seen in the video below, in which a young female chimp named Rafia asks for a leaf sponge, which chimps use to drink. Rebuffed by her older sister and another adult female, she throws a tantrum, then ignores her mother's request for a hug.

The gestures are not quite so flexible as human language, which can ne repurposed to describe a vast range of situations and intentions. Neither do they possess syntactical rules of words order or sentences structure.

Nevertheless, it's a marvelously rich system of communication. It's also lends support to the notion that human language didn't evelve from scratch over the last few million years, but is rooted in cognitive capacities and gestural proclivities that run deep in our primate family.

The other new study, co-authored by primatologists Emilie Genty and Klaus Zuberbuhler of Switzerland's University of Neuchatel, follows on that theme, though with a focus on a single bonobo gesture: strething an arm towards another bonobo, sweeping it inwards, then finishing with a wrist-twirl that turns a downward-facing palm upwards.

Bonobos are famous for their pleasure-seeking proclivites- they have lots of sex, perhaps not surprisingly, the gesture is used in that context, as an invitation to sex in more secluded place. But what makes the gesture special, report Genty and Zuberbuhler, is it's so-called semantic content, the compound meanings conveyed by the gestures's constituents actions.

The inwards sweep indicates the gestures's object, and the hand-turn symbolizes the path to a private spot. The gesture is typically followed by a body-turn towards the intended path; the signaler then look backs, checking whether the message was received.

That degree of informational richness is very much a part of human language, but had not before been observed in another great apes, said Genty. "There has so far been a lack of good evidence for semantic content in ape gestures and vocalizations," she said. "But that does not mean it's absent."

Genty wishes to find more such examples in bonobos, as do Hobaiter and Byrne in chimpanzees. Hobaiter is also curious whether, just as different chinpanzees groups frequently use tools in different ways, there might also be gestural dialects. Ultimately, said Hobaiter, it may be possible to combine information about gestures, facial expressions and vocal calls into an even more comprehensive chimp lexicon.

One limitation of the researcher's approach is that it can only identify gestures that provoke an action. Those that convey something more subtle - two chimps talking about the weather, for example, or reminiscing about the good old days -  can't now be interpreted. Whether such conversations occur is an open question.

"I have the impression that there were some meaning we couldn;t captue," said Hobaiter. Sometimes, she recalled, a chimpanzee would gesture to another, then appear satisfied, though nothing else seemed to happen. Said Hobaiter, "I would love to know what was going on!"
