Swimming is the Best Exercise for the Elderly

Health - The elderly are particularly vulnerable falls and injuries. Actually, it is advisable to train sports fitness and muscle elderly so that they do not easily fall. Even, not all exercise can be done. One exercise that is considered safe and god for the elderly is swimming.

The team of researchers in Australia surveyed about 1,700 men aged 70 years and over and to compare the type of exercise they are doing and likely fell for four years. In the period of the study was about 2,700 men fell.

The respondents in the study who turns swimming exercise reduced the risk to fall till 33 percent. Conversely, those who choose the exercise of golf, gymnastic, exercise treadmill or stationary bike, the risk for falls undiminished.

The researchers also found that swimmers perform better on test of "swing postural" compared to the average of all the men in the study. In test of standing balance, a person may be required to stand for 30 seconds, and researchers measured how much movement of the body at waist level center position.

Falling is a major health problem in the elderly. Fall can lead fractured, head trauma and other serious injuries. Even that was not too serious falls can lower their mobility during recovery, and cause other problems. One in three people aged 65 years or more been falling every year.

During walking exercise is physical activity that most people do elderly. But his exercise does not  decrease the risk of falling. Swim known strengthen core muscles and make it more stable so that one does not easily fall. Cycling is also actually beneficial for balance.
