Study: Marijuana may Make Damaged Sperm Quality

Health - A number of lifestyle can affect the size and shape or morphology of sperm. Research conducted Allan Pacey and her colleagues from University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom found that certain lifestyle effect on sperm morphology.

In a study published Human Reproduction, researchers recruited 14 men who visited fertility clinics in the UK. Researchers conducted a survey on the health and lifestyle of the men. Information obtained from the survey that there were 318 men with abnormal sperm morphology and 1,625 men with normal sperm.

Researchers found that men were twice as likely to have abnormal sperm while samples were collected during the summer. Men are also more likely to have abnormal sperm when young and smoked marijuana.

Although the majority of medical and lifestyle factors, such as smoking and alcohol consumption was associated with sperm morphology, a reproductive health specialist who was not involved in the study, Dr. James, still advise patients to live a healthy life.

"Cannabis is certainly alarming potential risk factor for damage sperm quality," said Dr Smith as quoted by Reuters news agency.

Meanwhile, researchers warned that people involved in their study don't represent all couples experiencing fertility problems. Smith also suggested that no further study.

Dr. Smith also added, It would be better if can see whether lifestyle factors associated with the attempt to get pregnant.
